I mostly work with limited companies or sole traders:
Limited Companies
A UK limited company is a business structure that is legally separate from its owners, who are known as shareholders. This separation provides “limited liability,” meaning the owners’ personal assets are protected from the company’s debts up to the value of their investment. Limited companies have specific responsibilities, including registering with Companies House, filing annual accounts, and paying Corporation Tax.

Key features of a limited company
- Separate legal entity: The company is treated as a distinct legal person, able to own assets, enter contracts, and sue or be sued in its own name.
- Limited liability: Owners are only liable for the company’s debts up to the amount they have invested in the business. Their personal savings, home, and other assets are protected if the company fails.
- Directors: One or more directors are responsible for running the business and have legal, financial, and administrative responsibilities, such as filing accounts with Companies House.
- Taxation: The company pays Corporation Tax on its profits, and owners pay income tax on any salary or dividends they take.
- Types: The two main types are “limited by shares” (where ownership is divided into shares) and “limited by guarantee” (where members agree to pay a set amount if the company winds up).
- Publicity: Certain information about the company, including its accounts, is made public through Companies House.
Limited Company Testimonials
“ We have employed Kate Rogers Accountancy Services since 2014 to undertake accountancy services for our company.
Kate has been an amazing supportive asset to the growth of the company, reliable, professional, and always developing her skills to keep up with the changing demands of our business.
What a superb asset for any business and would highly recommend her skills to any company.”
Rowland Jones, Director, Procum Limited
“ Having worked closely with Kate for over 10 years I can vouch for her integrity and accuracy and would have no hesitation in recommending her accountancy credentials, she is also hard working and prepared to go the extra yard when deadlines need to be met.”
Martin Lloyd Evans, USG Limited
Sole Traders
In the UK, a sole trader is a self-employed individual who owns and runs their business as an individual. It is the simplest and most common business structure, with no legal distinction between the owner and the business itself.

Key features of a Sole Trader
- Legal status: The business and its owner are considered a single legal entity. The business is not registered with Companies House.
- Control and profits: The sole trader has complete control over the business and keeps all the profits after tax.
- Unlimited liability: A sole trader has unlimited liability, meaning they are personally responsible for all business debts. If the business fails, personal assets such as your home or savings could be at risk to cover business liabilities.
